Quick Note – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – You Are Priceless

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,  for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

The History Channel show Pawn Stars allows us to get a glimpse into what it is like to live the life of a pawn broker, who not only pawns jewelry and instruments, but buys and sells historical artifacts and treasures.  This television show gives us an opportunity to learn about many historical items and what they might cost on the market today as Rick and the Gang make deals with whoever comes into the store.  They have bought and sold everything from cars to signed letters by George Washington, the first President of the United States of America.  It is definitely a fun show to watch.  My dad was watching this show the other day and saw one person come in and demand almost $50,000 for the identity card of Slash, a band member of Guns and Roses.  Of course, this deal was not made, and the man left with only an ID card instead of the cash he was looking for.  Watching this exchange, my dad began thinking about how much a person would be willing to pay for something that belonged to Jesus Christ.  If it could be clearly authenticated and well-documented that something belonged to Christ, what do you think its worth would be?  I can bet that almost everyone would consider that item priceless.  It could be the linen garments that He was wrapped in when placed into the tomb.  It could be his carpenter’s hammer.  It could be his cloak, tunic, or sandals.  Whatever item it was, it would be considered priceless.  People would flock from all around just to see that item.  After coming to this conclusion, my dad said something quite interesting; he said, “Then, I am considered priceless, because I belong to Jesus.”  I began to think about what he said and came to the same conclusion – he was right.  Of course, it’s true that we are not an item of historical significance, but more than that, we are children of God.  As Christians, we all belong to Christ, for He purchased us with His blood.  We are no longer our own, for we were bought with a price.  That means we belong to Him and are considered priceless in His eyes.  If we have given our lives to Him, then we are considered priceless.  Take joy in that knowledge; take comfort; take peace.  God gave Himself for you, because He saw you as being worth the life of His Son.  Now, you belong to Him and are considered even more valuable, for He treasures you as His child.  Let us find comfort that we are priceless.
