Quick Note – John 5:19

John 5:19 – “So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of  his own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing.  For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.'”

Have you ever heard the phrase like father like son?  It is simply used to describe how a son is exactly like his father, almost like a carbon-copy in some specific physical or character trait.  For example, my dad and I look quite alike, in that, some people can look at me and automatically associate me as the son of my dad.  We just look so similar.  I think it is also true with my character for some of it comes from my dad and some from my mom.  In a way, I am just like my dad.  In our passage today, we are reminded of how Jesus Christ is like His Heavenly Father.  Jesus stated, “For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.”  Simply, Christ was following His Father’s example of mercy, compassion, patience, and holiness.  Whatever God Above did, He would do the same.  Like Father, like Son.  When Christ died on the cross, He opened up the door for all people to become children of God, as long as they were willing to give their lives to Him as Savior and Lord.  If we are Christians, then we are also considered children of God, and we must be like Him.  He must study the Scriptures and become more and more like Him each day, carrying His character values in our lives, His heart and love for others, and His patience towards those who would offend Him.  Let us be like our Heavenly Father above.
